South Coast All Schools OzTag Gala Day
Wednesday 3rd of May 2017
For the first time, our College entered the All Schools carnival and had 5 teams in the competition. We were the only Catholic school in the Girls division! I had the pleasure of coaching the Girls in the Yr 9/10 team. Here's how the day went…….
Game 1 V Oak Flats H.S
First game is always tough as new combinations are tested. The Oak Flats team had a number of representative players in their ranks and were also predominantly Yr 10 girls. After a slow start, we got going and started to display what we were capable of. Tries to Jayme Millard, Jordan Miller and Raleigh Charlton saw us run out winners 3-2.
Game 2 V Lake Illawarra H.S
Feeling pretty confident after game 1, the girls came out in this game and played very strongly in both attack and defence. Some great ball movement and control had us all over the team from Lake Illawarra. Tries to Lucy Cleal, Jordan Miller, Courtney-Jade Wheatley and 2 tries each to Amy Simpson and Jayme Millard. Big win 7-0!
Game 3 V Warilla H.S 2
Another team full of Rep players and older girls. Our team had to work very hard in defence to keep the Warilla team out and eventually hung on to win tough 2-1!! Tries to Raleigh and Maddie Collimore.
Game 4 V W'Gong H.S
Final pool game. Another strong attacking performance had our team on top early and we never looked like losing this one. Some good use of the ball and space had us score 4 tries – 1 to Raleigh and Courtney and 2 tries to Jayme. Into the Semis as winner of our Pool!
Semi Final V Warilla H.S 1
After surviving (literally!!) our game against the other Warilla team, we had to get past the next team from Warilla. A quick early try from Raleigh put us in front, but we struggled to really dominate. Eventually we got another try from Jordan and managed to hang on to win 2-1. Into the Final!!!
Final V Oak Flats H.S
Much to our delight, Oak Flats beat Warilla H.S in their semi, so we had to face Oak Flats again in the Final. Our start was very ordinary, as we conceded 4 tries very quickly to find ourselves down 0-4. To the girls credit, they did not give up and fought back very well to finish the game 3-4 down. A great 2nd half performance from all girls.
Runners Up!
Congratulations to all girls involved. All girls displayed outstanding sportsmanship, great skills and importantly great team spirit. I thoroughly enjoyed the day with the team, and I'm sure all the girls enjoyed the day too!
