Tom Anderton Shield, May 19
15 Boys Rugby League Report

The heavens opened for the start of the Tom Anderton Shield with torrential rain falling. Thankfully it didn't rain for the 15 years and Opens games. In the 15s Edmund Rice defeated Holy Spirit fairly comfortably, 4 tries to 2.

I was extremely proud of all the players who were 100% committed to playing a hard, competitive match. Unfortunately many of our elite players decided not to play. Some had representative duties, some had injuries, others didn't want to get injured for their weekend club games.

The College basically formed a new side the day before the Shield. Darcy Jerez, Issac Devine, Louis George, Alex Fingland, Spencer Hines, Alex Poscoliero and Oscar Myers came into the side as new recruits and were a breath of fresh air to coach and watch on the field.

Special mention to Darcy Jerez, who I awarded best on field for Holy Spirit and Issac Devine who we relied on for some muscle upfront. Issac took a hammering and will need to improve his side step if he ever decides to move from Union to League. I also need to mention Rory Green who showed excellent leadership as Captain of the side.

The game was a hard fought by both sides and, despite the appalling weather conditions, was entertaining to watch. The sportsmanship from both sides was exemplary
